How it works
DERMA GENESIS® Microdermabrasion uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients.
Microdermabrasion is commonly used to treat and diminish:- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Sun Damaged Skin
- Acne Prone Skin
- Blackheads and Whiteheads
- Superficial Age Spots
- Hyperpigmentation
- Oily Skin
- Dry or Patchy Skin

The procedure is performed by using a hand piece that the operator passes over the skin. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin, as pictured below:
At the same time the underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes new collagen which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of ageing.
Before and after
The microdermabrasion procedure takes approximately thirty minutes, depending upon the skin condition, the area to be treated, and the desired outcome.

Many will notice improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after the first treatment. The long-term benefits of multiple procedures can be remarkable.
The following photographs show examples of results obtained by microdermabrasion.

- BOTOX® (Muscle Relaxing)
-

Wrinkles and lines on our faces usually appear as we age, due to repeated muscle movements and our natural genetic make-up. The likelihood of wrinkles can also be attributed to extrinsic factors such as smoking, over exposure to sun/sun beds, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, and hormone imbalance. By undertaking carefully crafted skin care regimes some of these effects can be counteracted along with a lifestyle of monastic abstinence. However, the natural ageing process cannot be stopped so we seek other solutions to the wrinkling problem.
Frown lines are induced by the bunching of skin from facial muscle contractions so when we frown the skin between our eyebrows gathers into a fold, which ultimately produces a chronic furrow. This gives one’s face an angry, frustrated, unapproachable look which can be misconstrued by others, i.e. a mean-faced look!
When using muscle relaxing products, it is the delivery quality not quantity which determines the desirable end result. This is achieved by an experienced practitioner who will inject tiny amounts and follow this up with a review after two weeks when the effect of the initial treatment can be assessed. A top-up dose can then be administered if necessary to correct any asymmetry or if a wrinkle or furrow is still present.
The ultimate aim of this treatment is to achieve a natural effect and not an artificial frozen or rigid look.
BOTOX® Injections (Botulinum Toxin A)
What is Botox?
BOTOX® or DYSPORT® or AZZALURE® are the commercial trade names for Botulinum Toxin Type A.
Botulinum Toxin is derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When injected into muscles, Botulinum Toxin has a local effect. It blocks transmission between the nerve endings and muscle fibres around the injection site to cause weakness of the nearby muscle.
What is Botox used for?
Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. It is typically used in people
aged 18 to 65.
Botox works by blocking nerve transmission to temporarily reduce the contractions of the facial muscles that cause frown lines. It has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles, and Botox injections are becoming increasingly popular.
Who can have Botox treatment?
Your doctor will decide if you can have cosmetic treatment with Botox. Before starting treatment, tell your doctor if you have any disorders that affect your nerves and muscles, if you are breastfeeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant soon.
The Botox injection procedure
Your doctor will administer several tiny injections of Botox directly into the muscles of your face. Prior to injection, your doctor will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area.
The entire Botox injection procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and does not require anaesthesia. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.
After the injection
You should notice an improvement in your frown lines within 3 to 7 days, the effects of which can last up to 4 months. However, results may vary.
After a period of time, your frown lines will begin to reappear as the effects of Botox wear off.
How often can Botox injections be given?
You can receive Botox injections every 4 months.
With repeated treatments, thinning of the muscles occurs, which produces longer lasting results.
How much does Botox treatment cost?
Each treatment costs from around £175
Possible side-effects of Botox
- headache
- flu-like symptoms
- temporary eyelid droop
- nausea
- squint/double vision
- twitching of the eye
- facial pain
- redness at the injection site
- muscle weakness
Do not have Botox treatment if you:
- have an infection where Botox will be injected
- are allergic to any of the ingredients
- are pregnant or think you might be pregnant
- have a neurological disorder (e.g. Myasthenia Gravis)
- Dermal Fillers (Restylane/JUVÉDERM®)
-
What are Dermal Fillers?
Skin starts to sag and wrinkle naturally with age, as underlying fat and collagen diminishes. Injecting dermal fillers into the skin plumps it up, makes it firmer and smoothes out lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers, for example Juvederm® or Restylane®, may be based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance widely used in medicine. Other types are made with collagen, produced from cows' skin. Newer types of filler with other ingredients claim to have a longer lasting effect, but aren't widely available
What Dermal Fillers can do?
Frequently used to fill out the lips, dermal fillers are also highly successful in reducing crows' feet, wrinkles around the lips, nose and mouth, and lines on the cheeks and forehead. They can also plump out hollow cheeks, reshape the chin or nose tip, or fill acne scars.
What Dermal Fillers can’t do?
Fillers can't alter the actual size of the nose.
What happens during treatment?
Before treatment itself begins, the face is sometimes numbed with a local anaesthetic cream or injection. Fillers are applied under the skin with a series of injections – a mildly uncomfortable process, with injections close to the lip or nose the most likely to be painful. Treatment takes up to one hour, and many people go straight back to normal daily life afterwards, although if a large area is treated it can take a few hours or even a day or two to recover. There may be slight bleeding where the needle was inserted, plus mild bruising or redness which will disappear in a few days. Repeat treatments are needed every six to nine months to maintain the appearance.
Results
The results are visible immediately, with the full effect showing once any swelling and bruising has subsided. Depending on age and the area treated, results may last 6-8 months. The lip area is subject to greater mechanical stress so the injected product breaks down more quickly so the results typically last about 5-6 months.
Risks
Avoid dermal fillers if you have active acne, or show even a slight reaction to the filler on skin test.
After treatment, allergic reactions sometimes crop up, including itching, puffiness, and red or bumpy skin. Patients who have had cold sores in the past can suffer an outbreak. Rarely, red lumps appear under the skin some months after treatment.
Costs
Sometimes a combination of different fillers is used, or dermal fillers are used alongside Botox. The costs depend on the type of filler and depth of filling needed. Prices are based on the number of syringes of filler, and start at around £175.
